An executive director (ED) of a small school for children with autism, who is also a member of one of Bridgestar's LinkedIn groups, had recently lost two of the school's eight board members. While all the board members were instrumental in getting the school open, the group didn't seem prepared to handle ongoing development. The ED asked, "I need to recruit active and involved members who can provide leadership—how can I do better this time?" The LinkedIn community has provided some excellent advice that could be useful to all.

Reporting directly to the Associate Executive Director of Finance, the Controller - Finance Manager will: develop and maintain program budgets and monthly reporting; manage daily finance functions with the assistance of a seven person professional staff; develop and implement accounting policies and procedures; ensure compliance with GAAP and FASB requirements, as well as governmental rules and regulations; and maintain the agency’s automated accounting systems. Knowledge of Fund Easy and Precision Care software is a plus. This position will oversee cash management, prepare annual budgets for departments and compare budgets to actual results on a regular basis, present financial information as necessary to executive staff and Board of Directors, and will manage purchasing activities and purchasing staff. This position will also serve as liaison with governmental and independent auditors, banking partners and the management group.
