Nonprofit Job Description Samples
As an input into your job description writing efforts, here we provide adapted versions of selected job descriptions the Bridgespan Executive Search team has created for clients. The examples span the following functional areas: finance, fundraising/development, program management, operations, marketing/communications, and general management. These representative job descriptions illustrate just some of the many ways organizations configure their senior management roles and write their job descriptions for would-be candidates.
Job description samples for fundraising/development, general management, marketing/communications, and programs roles are categorized by revenue (small organizations of $0 to $10 million; medium organizations of $10 million to $20 million, and large organizations of $20-plus million) and domain. The chief financial officer (CFO) and chief operating officer (COO) job description samples are categorized by budget size and complexity of the respective roles. Each sample job description is intended to be a jumping off point, and likely will need to be tailored to meet the particular needs of your organization. Senior management roles for all functions—and the organizational structures in which they exist—are highly varied across organizations and even within organizations over time. Responsibilities can differ significantly depending on an organization’s strategic imperatives, design, history, and culture, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the existing senior leadership team.
