We are a local affiliate of the national Girls Inc. organization, which provides vital educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, underserved areas.

In 2007, Girls Inc. of Alameda County served 7,000 girls and their families through year-round academic, enrichment and skills building programs, as well as counseling services. The purpose of these programs – specifically designed for girls ages 5-18 – is to expand girls’ capacity for confident and responsible adulthood, economic independence, and personal fulfillment. Girls Inc. offers award-winning local and national programs that also build self-esteem, foster creativity, and promote critical thinking skills.

Our nationally developed programs are the result of studies conducted by the Girls Incorporated National Resource Center - the largest and most comprehensive research center on girls in the country. Girls Inc. programs take place at a variety of community and school-based sites on a year-round basis. No other youth agency in the Bay Area offers such comprehensive programming designed specifically for girls.


Senior Director of Grants Management

SCOPE AND CHALLENGES

Girls Inc. seeks a full-time Senior Director of Grants Management to develop, manage, and execute an integrated Girls Inc.'s Grants Department, which is responsible for the management, reporting, and procurement of foundation and government grants totaling approximately $3M. Girls Inc. grants cover a wide range of content and program areas, including, but not limited to mental and behavioral health, information technology, informal science, math and engineering, literacy development, family involvement, fitness, nutrition, youth advocacy, youth leadership and case management. The Senior Grants Director, along with her/his staff works closely with agency staff in program/project development and design. Participates as a member of the Senior Leadership Team to formulate and implement policies and plans to meet the organizations short and long-term objectives.
This position requires an experienced grants person who has outstanding relationship skills, collaborative skills, writing, researching and communication skills, is particularly well-versed and successful with government funding, has strong management and supervision skills and is resourceful, organized, and detail-oriented. Grants Department functions include grants research, project design, proposal writing, grants management, budget development, grants processing, grant reporting, oversight and coordination with outside grant writing consultants and oversight of the financial aspects from solicitation to close-out.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create, implement, and monitor a grants plan to ensure financial targets are achieved.
- Based on Girls Inc.'s current business plan, oversee and assist with the identification of appropriate foundation and government (city, county, state and federal) funding through online and newsletter funding opportunities, and community contacts and networks.
- Supervise grants staff, each with responsibility for raising specific foundation and government annual totals.
- Design and execute efficient systems for grants management beginning with notification of awards, contract negotiations, reports due, accurate records maintained in Raiser's Edge and database management.
- Oversee the identification and selection of appropriate funders for proposal writing.
- Research, track and report on foundation and government funding trends.
- Coordinate and collaborate with staff in the project design and production of grant proposals.
- Collaborate closely with Development and Finance Department and its Chiefs.
- Write and complete full grant proposals, including budgets.
- Prepare and ensure CEO and key staff are prepared for meetings with funders.
- Develop relationships with foundations and government representatives.
- Represent agency interests in inter-agency collaborative grant proposals, negotiate scope of work and funding
- Assist with the design of and oversee the process for all foundation and government grant reporting functions, in coordination with the two Program Directors, and Chief Mental Health Officer.
- Attend government bidders' meetings, as needed.
- Oversee and contract for outside government and foundation grant writing services, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of five to seven years progressively responsible experience in grants management, program/project development, grant writing, research, with an emphasis on knowledge, experience and success with government funding and government relations.
- Demonstrated experience in grants department staff supervision and professional development.
- Experience in multi-faceted project management.
- Understanding of issues and needs related to girls, youth development, families, and mental health.
- Experience in leading multi-partner collaborations (private, government entities, community-based organizations) towards developing grant proposals, grant management and reporting.
- Ability to facilitate collaborative meetings related to program design and implementation and contract compliance.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, EXCEL, database spreadsheets and Internet research.
- Experience in strategic and tactical planning, budget development and coaching.
- Commitment to diversity and proven ability to work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to ensure deadlines are met.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple complex projects and achieve goals and objectives. Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- A-133 Audit experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree required
- Background clearance from the Department of Justice
- A valid California Drivers License, access to a reliable vehicle and proof of automobile liability insurance with minimum policy requirements as established by Girls Inc.
