Position Details Position Title: Senior Director, External Affairs Function: Strategic Planning Position Type: Full-Time (Paid) Posted On: 7/19/2010 Job Description: The Taproot Foundation is seeking an experienced resourceful, creative, high energy and strategic professional to manage the organization’s strategic partnerships nationally and supervise the marketing and communications efforts and campaigns built to promote the pro bono ethic across the design, marketing, HR, technology and management professions.

The Senior Director, External Affairs is responsible for building and managing the organization's external image, increasing and managing our capacity to build relationships, and engaging external stake holders in our mission. This is a strategic member of the organization and reports directly to the President.

Core Responsibilities
► Develop and maintain critical partnerships across the country to produce issue-specific campaigns and the marketplace platform to build the pro bono ethic
► Ensure the organization builds sustainable and strong national relationships across the country and sectors, especially federal government and trade associations
► Oversee and ensure the success of Taproot’s marketing, public relations and communications department.  Launch a national Pro Bono Consulting “Evangelism” effort to promote the pro bono movement
► Build national coalitions to support our mission, revenue and programs
► Support local offices in evangelizing the pro bono movement and growing national funding partnerships
► Play a strategic leadership role in the organization
Qualifications: Core Requirements/Skills
► Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
► Thrives coloring outside the lines and taking risks
► Self-aware and contagiously playful and creative
► Proven resourcefulness and adaptability, track record making the impossible possible
► Demonstrated ability to create large revenue generating partnerships
► Experience leading marketing and public relations departments
► Experience building high performing teams
► Dynamic and powerful public speaking skills
► Track record of building and managing coalitions
► Strong facilitation skills with divers stakeholders
► Recognized internal and external leadership skills
► Federal lobbying and policy experience a plus
► MBA or MPP preferred

Location: New York City or Washington, DC
Travel: 25-50%
